Nicola Sweeting says: ‘When a box of family treasures arrived from Cousin Doreen in America I knew I had found the story I wanted to write. Inside were letters from the Front, photographs and many other riches from which I pieced together past events as they unfolded. Written initially for young adults the book is for anyone to enjoy.’
The story is based on true events that took place during the First World War and follows the fortunes of a young soldier, David Colebrook, on his journey from the East End of London to St Albans, and then on to the fighting at the Front. It is also the tale of his sweetheart, Daisy, who he leaves behind. It is an account of hardship, courage and of everlasting love.
Nicola was born in St Albans. She studied Philosophy at King’s College, London University and then qualified as a teacher at Exeter University. She is married with four children and lives in Somerset.
